Recently Obama while addressing the graduates of Hampton University said that iPad, iPhone, Xbox and PlayStation are distraction and they have made information a lot diverse for us. His statement surprised a lot of people and the tech world. Is it appropriate to give comments like this? Will it affect the sales of these gadgets? Let’s see what he actually said.

He said that “meanwhile, you’re coming of age in a 24/7 media environment that bombards us with all kinds of content and exposes us to all kinds of arguments, some of which don’t always rank that high on the truth meter. And with iPods and iPads and Xboxes and PlayStations — none of which I know how to work — information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment, rather than the means of emancipation. So all of this is not only putting pressure on you; it’s putting new pressure on our country and on our democracy.”

President Obama does not know how to use any but he knows that the younger generation is a lot technology oriented and they spend a lot of time using iPad, iPod, Xbox and PlayStation. Some people do agree with President Obama that all these things are really distracting the generation. Parents and school teachers are among those who agree to these comments most. But others are totally against this view. They say that all these things are not a source of information but a source of entertainment for them. They are of the view that Xbox and PlayStation games provide a vast knowledge to the users. They teach a lot of things to the younger generation. They motivate kids to get inspiration from the game characters and help them do planning which broadens their mind.

To some extent both views are correct. With whom do you agree and why? Do you really think that these electronic gadgets are a distraction and they are a diversion in the information to people? Just be honest here.
